Today’s topic is about letting go.

So all of us have gone through life with things that have happened to us, pent up feelings towards people, emotions that we carry deep inside of us, and a lot of things that we need to work on to be able to move ahead in life.

Perhaps, we have friends who are vengeful, vindictive, or who share information they probably shouldn’t share.

Maybe you know people who talk about others behind their backs.

Those toxic and negative experiences are directly related to those people holding things inside that they probably should learn to let go.

Our happiness is affected by what we hold on to, as are our relationships.

Holding on to negative and toxic emotions can have catastrophic consequences, which is why I believe that all of us need to work on letting go.

“Learn to let go of things not meant for you”  -Anneke McConnell

Sometimes we try to hold on to things that  we know are wrong for us.

These are things that we know, in your gut, are wrong for us, but you hold on to them anyway. We go through the motions hoping for change, hoping that things will get better, but time goes by and things stay the same. This leads to anger and resentment, discomfort and unease, and before  we know it, we are miserable.

So how do we avoid these negative emotions?

We learn to let go!

Learn to let go and you will create room for happiness. Learn to let go and reduce stress. So how do we learn to let go? Well, the truth is, it takes practice; but I want to walk through an exercise to begin working on the process.

What You Will Need

  • A Piece of Paper
  • A Pen

What You Will Do

Step 1: On the front of the paper, write down 5 things that you really want to do in your life. These could be personal goals, career aspirations etc.

Step 2: Flip the paper over.

Step 3: Write down the things that are holding you back from accomplishing those goals.

Step 4: Rip up the paper and throw it away.

So why did we rip up the paper? Believe it or not, the only thing that’s holding us back is ourselves. You might have written down many things – from family, to finances, and while those might be obstacles that you will need to overcome to accomplish your goals, at the end of the day, you are the only thing holding yourself back.

All those things you wrote down, at the end of the day, are excuses.

Let go of those excuses, move forward and start accomplishing the goals you have for yourself.
